ABOUT

ABOUT

Experience the spirit of South Sinai with easy desert vibes, mountain views, starry skies and nautical touches at Villa Kelvin. Just on the edge of Sharm El Sheikh, besides the world renowned Red Sea, lies the Bedouin village of Ruwaysat, home of Villa Kelvin. Culturally immersive, rustic and charming local life surrounds the property yet, behind its front door lies an open spacious villa with stone arches, airy domes, a walled garden and private pool, eager to welcome you into its peaceful, relaxing and energizing space.

VK was designed and built by avid sailor and sea captain, Kelvin Deacon, who worked on the sea his whole life, the last 20 years of which were here in Sinai, where he became well known and loved throughout the community. His love of the open sea and rugged desert shine through, seamlessly harmonizing nautical and Arabian themes found throughout the villa.

DINING

LOUNGE

VK offers a comfortable open plan lounge that is the heart of the villa. Perfect for kicking back under the sunlight filtering through the stained glass in the ceiling dome, cooling off in air conditioning while overlooking the pool and garden, or simply settling down for a movie night in.

The lounge makes the perfect communal space to enjoy time with your loved ones.

GARDEN

VK boasts a beautiful, tranquil, private walled garden. Like any oasis in the desert, the villa garden is a peaceful sanctuary.

Whether it's walking barefoot on the grass, reading a book in the secluded snug, sunning by the pool, watching the dragonflies flit over the water or taking in the sights and sounds of Sinai from the rooftop, the garden is the perfect energizing space to let time slow.

SWIMMING POOL

The clear shimmering waters of the pool immediately draw the eye as you enter the garden. Offering access by ladder, the pool has a deep and shallow end including an adjacent shallow water sun ledge, perfectly designed to refresh you whilst allowing maximum sun for tanning.

The pool is cleaned daily and has a fantastic filtration system, however being located on the edge of a desert dust may settle in it after a strong breeze, but don't despair, our fantastic housekeeper would be delighted to give it an extra clean if asked nicely.

Being in Egypt, the pool is not heated, however most of the year round this is far from an issue.

ROOFTOP LOUNGE
VK offers guests use of the energizing space that is the Rooftop Lounge.

This jewel offers panoramic views from the mountains and desert, through the sweeping vistas that overlook twinkling lights of the city to the shimmering sea with beautiful Tiran island beyond.

With comfortable seating around the inlayed table from the sky lounge of Kelvin's first boat,Virginia, this is a wonderful place to share evening drinks, relax or refresh with sunset/sunrise yoga, or to simply soak up the ambiance of desert and local area.

The Rooftop Lounge is a particularly magical spot during a sunrise as the sun climbs up from the sea itself and bathes Tiran Island in morning light.

COMING SOON: A shaded rooftop daybed, softly draped in fine netting, idyllic for hanging out and relaxing during the lazy afternoons, or for enjoying those heady,
star filled, exotic nights!
STUDY

VK has a designated office/study area. With desk space and plenty of power outlets, guests have a practical area to focus and concentrate in.

As internet service in Egypt occasionally "pops out for a coffee", VK carries 2 sources of WI-FI in an effort to limit interruption for our guests.

This space is ideal for those who need to keep their finger on the pulse or work remotely.

Alternatively why not borrow one of our books from the Library, throw open the screen doors to the utility area beyond, sit down on the bench and immerse yourself in a literary adventure.

Whatever your pleasure, the study offers a tranquil meditative space for those needing it.

SUMMARY

Kelvin combined his love for sea and desert to conjure up a unique ambiance in this middle eastern haven that's tucked away from plain sight.  With stone arches, traditional domes, restored port holes, custom stained glass, ship’s bar stools, curved edges on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, nautical compass and ship’s wheel inlayed in wood, every detail was thought out and added for a reason.

The kitchen/dining area, lounge and study are open plan and the heart of the villa. Whether it’s lounging in and around the pool, dining at the Captain’s table, hanging out in the airy indoor space or tucked away in the garden snug, Villa Kelvin has what you need to ensure you have the perfect stay.

While all of this sounds, and is idyllic, especially for those of you who love a culturally immersive adventure, life in Egypt does have its quirks. We have come to love these quirks which add to the character; let's say a more rustic style of building is favoured around here.

A few of the floorboards are uneven and the tile floors in the Captain's Quarters wet room/bathroom aren't level, and then the finishes, whilst beautiful, are a little more rustic than that which many of us are used to.

All in all Villa Kelvin is full of character and middle eastern charm.  We can’t wait to share it with you!
